OUR HISTORY AND PHILOSOPHY Since our beginning in 1979, R.A.M. Investing, Ltd. has established an enviable reputation for quality and achievement in residential housing. R.A.M. has developed an excellent reputation for producing a variety of substantial, tasteful homes and neighborhoods. We have done this by focusing on what we know and love, homes! We are constantly working to know what people want, need and expect in their new home. We do not have a commercial building subsidiary, a mortgage company, or any other distractions. R.A.M. is about people and their homes.
In recent years, R.A.M. has been honored with various awards for homebuilding and land development. These awards include the 2006 Environmental Award in Land Development for preserving, protecting and enhancing the environment in The Reserve at Ashton. There have been several Awards of Excellence for the best transitional and the best traditional home over the years, as well as an Award of Merit for best colonial home by MNCBIA Custom Builders Council.
In 2007, R.A.M. was honored by being voted the MNCBIA’s Small Volume Builder of the Year for the third time. This is an especially meaningful award as it is voted on by the trade contractors, material suppliers, architects, engineers and land use attorneys who are the associate members of the Building Industry Association. The president of R.A.M. Investing, Ltd. is Ralph DeSena, he and (now retired) Michael Anselmo formed R.A.M. Investing, Ltd in 1979. These two principals brought substantial, high quality real estate experience to the endeavor. Ralph, an Harvard MBA, held a variety of management and development positions within the B. F. Saul organization, including Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the Chevy Chase Savings & Loan's building subsidiary, Manor Investment Company, and culminating in several years as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Chevy Chase Property Co, Ltd a 100 million dollar public real estate investment company.
Mike, a local Washingtonian educated at Mount St. Mary’s and American University, was responsible for the project management of several major real estate projects owned by B.F. Saul Co. and its affiliates and principals. Working in the early years of his career for his father, a successful and well- respected Montgomery County Residential builder, provided Mike with an in-depth knowledge of quality construction. In 2004, in anticipation of Mike’s retirement, Ralph and Mike brought on Matthew Kanne to benefit from Mike’s mentoring for approximately 18 months. Matt has since taken over the field operations with enthusiasm and has crafted numerous high-end homes as well as overseeing the start and wrap-up of land development activities with great success.
We at R.A.M. have never aspired to be the biggest building company but we do strive to be the best. We define "Being the Best" with this philosophy. We want the people we encounter in our business to benefit from the experience. Whether one is the purchaser of a luxury home or a laborer on a landscape crew, the banker who makes the construction loan or the trim carpenter crafting an elaborate molding, we want them all to feel that they were communicated with directly, treated fairly, and respected for their contribution to the home building process. We believe in teamwork, collaboration, and the striving towards excellence. Each R.A.M. home enhances the land it sits on and complements its surrounding. It is very well thought out and appropriately appointed so that it positively reinforces the lifestyle of its owners and thus produces the highest level of owner satisfaction.
While creating highly individualized and exciting residences has earned R.A.M. an excellent reputation in the marketplace, we also enjoy excellent bank and subcontractor relations because of our on-site hands on style, and rigorous job site and financial management. Some of the subcontractors working on R.A.M. jobs have been with us since inception and most have worked on our projects for at least twenty years. R.A.M. Investing, Ltd. is an active member of the Maryland National Capital Building Industry Association (MNCBIA). Ralph is a member of the association’s leadership, serving as president in 1999 and is a Life Director. He previously served as Chairman of the Montgomery County Liaison Committee as well as Chairman of the Custom Builders Council. Ralph was appointed by former County Executive Doug Duncan as chairman to the Board of Registration for Building Contractors. He held that position for five years in the late 1990’s. This Board reviews and approves the licensing of building contractors in Montgomery County.
